Port of Truro support ‘The Blue Litter Project’

The Blue Litter Project is a marine litter collection campaign that is across Cornwall helping track and collect litter from Cornwall’s remote marine spaces.  During the summer season our Patrol Boat staff at the Port of Truro have  been collecting marine litter as they go about their daily patrol duties.

Clean Cornwall began the project  with a survey that was sent out to members of the marine leisure industry.  This survey asked members about their experience with marine plastic and litter in Cornwall’s remote marine spaces, and how they were currently equipped to collect this litter, as they encountered it.  Based on this survey, they selected specialised equipment to distribute and started developing a litter recording app.  The success of this project is being measures using the app, which was developed by the Clean Cornwall Team.

This app receives data submissions from users including:

  • Date of litter pick

  • Location of litter pick

  • Description of litter found

  • Categories of litter (sorted by size)

  • Photo evidence
