Salvage of ‘Ar Bageergan’

Our Harbour team in collaboration with an external approved contractor, the vessel’s owner’s insurance company and their appointed marine surveyor, started recovering the boat Ar Bageergan which sank in Penzance Harbour on the Wednesday 23rd August. Falmouth-based Seawide Services are utilising air bags to lift the vessel from the dock bottom and once lifted and secure in the airbags, the boat will be towed to Penzance slipway where a full assessment of her hull condition will be carried out jointly with the owners insurance surveyor and the harbour’s nominated marine surveyor. The photo shows the vessel’s stern partially moved away from the quay wall to allow better access for divers to continue to put airbags under her to slowly lift her.

Once all parties are satisfied the vessel is stable, not leaking out any pollutants and is safe to tow around to the slipway the operation will be carried out keeping the vessel within port limits and placing her on the slipway allowing her to dry out. There, sadly, will be some disruption to the slipway usage during the next week which will be broadcast to the mooring holders, stakeholders and posted locally in order for the vessel to be surveyed and further action taken as required.
